Map of My Home, 2018, performance, 60 minutes
I selected images from art history and mass media that characterized people of color and colonized people. Many of the images were painted by or photographed by artists or reporters who were not from the community they captured. These images were projected and traced directly on the wall for one minute. Each viewer received a hand-made “passport.” Some randomly selected viewers received a passport that instructed them to draw with me. The performance was a catalyst for examining these images in relation to one another, to the viewer, the artist and the tracer.
The last photograph is of the wall drawing with no image projected on to it.
