Family, Memory & the Image
Rose Desiano in Conversation with artists Lorie Novak & Sa’dia Rehman

Photographer Rose DeSiano will speak with accomplished artists Lorie Novak and Sa’dia Rehman about their recent work and their role as woman artists navigating through today’s contemporary art world. Both Novak and Rehman explore the relationship in how memory, family, and world issues by incorporating their own personal experiences along side imagery borrowed from mainstream media. Novak incorporates media technology and Rehman works in
sculpture and collage. The artists will discuss their creative use of narrative and installation.

Novak has worked with themes such as identity and loss, presence and absence,the relationship between the intimate and the public. Novak is a Professor of Photography & Imaging at New York University and Affiliated Faulty at the Hemispheric Institute. Rehman explores isolation, hidden social boundaries and cultural assimilation. She has shown both nationally and international, working closely with the South Asian Woman’s Creative Collective.

Two Moon Art House and Café is pleased to present Brooklyn-based artist Sa’dia Rehman’s first NY solo exhibition, Seeds of Discord, featuring installation and works on paper, November 10- November 26^th, 2011. There will be an artist reception on Thursday, November 10th at 7:30pm.

Rehman will present works that retrace memories originating from her childhood photographs. The exhibition is comprised of a haunting installation, fragmented collages and disarming mixed media works on paper. She recreates images that have physically and socially been erased into unearthly narratives.

Two Moon Art House and Café, a newly opened cafe, wine bar, art gallery, and performance space in Park Slope, specializes in all natural and organic fare, and multimedia art shows featuring artists from around the world.
