Erasure of Fallen Dust, 2017, charcoal, carbon paper, vellum, ink, photo, spray paint, Xerox and map pins, 121 x 180 inches
This wall drawing, based on the collage This is My Flag, 2017 is an amalgam of materials and techniques: collage, assemblage, and stencil-use. On the left one can see: the stars of the USA flag, the legs of seated students, some bodiless and some emerging from the wall. On the center top is a spray painted organic form contained on a rectangular sheet of drawing paper. This and the rectangular image below are about to rupture. The brick motif, making up the background layer, is adapted from the collage, This is My Flag, but is also represented in the wall drawing, This is My Family, 2017 as a foundational support. Here the miniature brick motif spreads like mold climbing up the wall, actually made using a letter-size cut stencil. The drawing continued to evolve in the gallery. I continued to add drawings, spray painted photographs and altered Xeroxes directly on the wall, adhered with map pins or artist tape throughout the 20-day duration of the exhibition.
