To create these collages, I use several family photographs. I scan the photographs and print them to letter size so the details are both increased and diluted by the resolution distortion. I then cut the figures out of the magnified prints to create viewfinders. I lay the several altered photos on a Xerox flatbed and copy several collages. With Xerox, the space collapses and abstraction becomes the forefront. The positive spaces become the negative spaces and vice versa. For these collages, I change the positions of the cut photos several times before a final result. In This is my flag, from left to right one can see a butchered cow, silhouettes of children’s shoes, the stars of the USA flag, a tea setting, wood paneling, barred windows, and overlapping branches.
